AMT Editor Asks Himself, "Why didn't I think of that?" After First Being Introduced to the X-Beam

During the 2006 SEMA show in Las Vegas, Aircraft Maintenance Technology (AMT) editor Joe Escobar attended a luncheon sponsored by GearWrench expecting to see a variety of new products as he frequently does at industry shows. What he did not expect was the X-Beam. In his December 2006 editorial in AMT, Escobar recalled his immediate impressions after first laying eyes on the X-Beam -- he knew immediately that the tool had been developed by a mechanic and he asked himself, Why didnt I think of that? The article stated that the X-Beam handle is forged at a 90-degree angle, ensuring that whether youre working with the ratcheting end or open-end, your hand applies pressure to a flat surface (as opposed to the thin edge of a traditional wrench). AMT is read by more than 20,000 aircraft maintenance professionals each month.

They’re great for getting at trans cooler lines and radiator hoses that are hidden behind fans and covers and miles of wire loom.”

During an earlier review of the XL Pass-Thru Ratchet, the Toolmonger commented, “When we first looked at the XL Pass-Thru, we thought, “That’s pretty cool.”  Once we had one in the shop, however, we revised our opinion significantly — upward. This is an incredibly useful tool that’ll pull your acorns out of the fire and make life easier. Really.”

Revolutionary wrench design features up to 500 percent increase in hand contact area for ease-of-use and optimal ergonomics

BALTIMORE (November 7, 2006) - GearWrench. today announced that is received the 2006 Best of What's New Award from Popular Science magazine in the Home Technology Category for its X-Beam Wrench. Introduced earlier this year, the new X-Beam was among thousands of entries for the coveted annual award. The X-Beam is on display this week in New York's Grand Central Terminal as part of the Popular Science Best of What's New Live Showcase.

"Best of What's New is the ultimate Popular Science accolade, representing a year's worth of work evaluating thousands of products," said Mark Jannot, editor of Popular Science. The X-Beam features a patent-protected wrench handle design that increases the hand contact area by up to 500 percent over traditional wrenches. One end of the X-Beam wrench is forged at a 90-degree angle from the other end, and the tapered handle is thicker on both sides than a standard wrench.
The X-Beam is designed uniquely to fit the user's hand for optimal ergonomic benefits, comfort and control. At the box-end, the wrench features a ratcheting mechanism and a 75 percent reduction in silhouette clearance (open-end outline), which allows access into tight spaces.

"We are honored to receive the Best of What's New Award from Popular Science for the innovative X-Beam Wrench," said Jeff Svoboda, president of Danaher Tool Group. "At GearWrench, we strive to develop new products that respond to specific user needs and the X-Beam is a perfect example as it addresses growing demand for hand tools that reduce fatigue without sacrificing power or control."

John Hong, an editor with Land Rover Monthly, an independent magazine written by and for Land Rover enthusiasts, first saw the QuadBox at the National Hardware Show in May.  In the October issue of the magazine, he reviewed the QuadBox we sent to him along with our Stubby Ratcheting Wrenches. The QuadBox offers "the convenience of having four different wrench sizes at your fingertips."  He also states, "I am seriously considering adding a clip to the small [QuadBox wrench] so I can keep it in my pocket just like a pen."

GearWrench® Wins Honor from Circle Track Magazine
Magnetic Oil Drain Plug Socket Voted Top New Product for 2006

Hunt Valley, MD April 26, 2006 The GearWrench Magnetic Oil Drain Plug Socket was recently selected as one of the Top 40 New Products for 2006 by Circle Track magazine, a leading publication for news and information on automotive racing technology.

The editors at Circle Track magazine scoured two leading automotive trade shows in 2005 -- the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in October and the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Show in December -- to determine its list of hot new products for 2006. The Magnetic Oil Drain Plug Socket was chosen from thousands of parts, tools and components on display at the SEMA and PRI shows last year. GearWrench’s new specialty Magnetic Oil Drain Plug Socket is currently featured in the May issue of the magazine along with the other winners.

“GearWrench’s commitment to developing innovative and effective solutions for the automotive industry drives us to experiment with new products,” said Jeff Svoboda, president of Danaher Tool Group. “Created by our talented research and development team, the Magnetic Oil Drain Plug Socket is a great product that fills a major void in the industry. We are delighted that it has been chosen as one of the top products for this year by Circle Track magazine.”

Unlike any other product on the market, GearWrench’s Magnetic Oil Drain Plug Socket uses a magnetic socket core to secure the drain plug, enabling an automotive technician to keep his hands and the plug free from exposure to hot oil. This allows for one handed-plug removal and installation. The Magnetic Oil Plug Socket kit has the most popular SAE and metric sizes for oil drain applications, and the sockets are color-coded for easy identification of sizes. The GearRachet handle affords quick socket changes and requires only a five-degree swing. The GearRatchet platform is also used in other products as GearWrench Pass-Thru Sockets System, GearWrench Ratcheting Tap and Die and GearWrench Serpentine Belt Tool.

GearWrench is a premier automotive brand from Danaher Tool Group, one of the largest hand tool manufacturers in the world. Since the launch of the original patented 5° ratcheting wrench, the GearWrench brand has continuously led the industry with breakthroughs in pass-thru ratchets, sockets, screw/nut drivers, pliers and specialty tools.
